Family and relationships question:

I am already divorced and as part of financial settlement I received spousal maintenance for joint lives and all the equity in the former matrimonial home ( there is not enough equity to rehome myself and my two sons who are at university) The Court Order states that I am to put the house up for sale next month and upon sale my ex can apply for a variation of the sm ( his name has remained on the mortgage and the deeds have now been transfered into my name only.) He has written to me recently and has said he wont enforce a sale if I accept that the sm payments be halved from 1k to £500 and accept a lump sum of £15k. It is the usual story I gave up a good career....Now aged 55 yrs I am unable to find work as a teacher and will in all likelihood only find myself a minimum wage job for the future. Should I sell my property, be taken back to court by my ex for a downward variation ? Given my age, lack of a well paid job and needing to hang onto the Court Ordered maintenance which would help me secure some kind of mortgage....How likely is it that the judge would reduce or cease my maintenance order for joint lives. Or should I simply accept my ex's offer even though I see it as such a poor one?
