Suing question:

My nephew was assualted in Sainsbury's recently. The security there let the assailant go, even though both my nephew and a witness requested that they keep hold of him. They did not even ring for the police, my nephew had to. It also transpired that the assailant regularily shopped there. Is it possible to sue Sainsburys for compensation?
